August Menu Plan

As many times I've thought of how cool menu planning was, I just never could stick with it.  Until now.  God really pushed me over the past couple of days to get off my rear and DO something about how I've been feeling and thinking.  Yesterday I accomplished my baking day for a week, next week I plan on getting a start on the meal preparing and hopefully will get a few batches of cookie dough in Ziploc bags and in the freezer ( maybe even freeze some muffins).  So far I've figured out the first 2 weeks of August's menu plan.  A part of me is thinking I may just stick to 2 week menu planning for now and then move to 1 month.

Dinners-

Today's baking day results!

This was what I accomplished for today's Baking Day!  I'm quite proud of myself, although I now wish I'd made some kind of biscuits.  Oh well, this will do :)  What all is pictured you ask?

Well, there's a bag of blueberry muffins, 2 bags of chocolate chip muffins (plus a small bag to give to Paul's parents) - I put some in 1 bag to eat for this week and then I wrapped the remaining EACH in saran wrap and then into another bag to put in the freezer.  There's also a container of chocolate cupcakes WITH icing, which the cupcakes didn't turn out so well.  I put the remaining cupcakes UN-iced and into another bag.  Finally, there's a batch of freshly made chocolate chip cookies as well as some chocolate chip cookie dough which I flash froze into little tablespoon fulls on a cookie sheet and then placed in a big (when I'm ready to bake some more cookies, I can take each cookie as I want).

Overall, I'm quite pleased with my Baking Day!  It was my first successful Baking Day and I hope to do the same thing next week.  I'm not sure I'm ready to do a full month's of baking, but weekly is OK for me :)

Ah yes, I almost forgot, I don't have this pictured but I also made some yummy fruit dip!  I will post recipes soon :D

Tackling the boy's room!

I did it!  I took this:

AND this:

 To this:

I feel so accomplished!  Now, it's not completely done, but that was last Thursday, which also happens to be the day I focus most on the boy's room.  It was in need of a major cleaning and the 1 thing that was bothering me most, we got done!  And that was this box:

Our donate box!  Or should I say the Boy's donate box!  Those are all of his toys he gave away to other children who might could use them.  He's outgrown them and they've been taking up space that we could use!  I will be cleaning the closet tomorrow (Thursday, yes I realize this post is a week late!) and organizing it, getting rid of clothes that are too small and figuring out what to do with the girl's clothes.

Quick Update on where I've been:

Hello readers!  I'm sorry for my recent lack of posts!  I've been having very bad headaches and feeling quite fatigue; come to find out our gas was leaking!  Thank God it was barely leaking, but with me staying at home all day, every day, I think it hit me the most.  I was also the only one able to smell it until our brother in law came over, whom use to work with a gas company!  I'm trying to catch up on my rest and catch up on posts!  I have lots in store, here are some ideas:

  1. Recipes
  2. More organizing challenge videos/posts
  3. Before/After pictures
  4. GIVEAWAYS & REVIEWS!

Organizing Challenge Week 1

I have been hard at work the past couple of weeks.  Trying to come up with a plan for the Organizational Challenge I wanted to host.  Well, I'm finally doing it.  It's my first time doing something like this and it's a start, you gotta start somewhere don't you?

I wanted to create this challenge for myself basically.  Something I could look back on and say, "Look at what I can do!"  In case I ever start feeling down about cleaning or praising Him I can look at the posts/videos and be proud of what He's enabled me to do.  If any of you would like to join in on this challenge then just leave a comment stating so and leave your blog URL if you have one!

video

Each week I will try and post one BEFORE blog/vlog, at the beginning of the week and an AFTER, at the end of the week.  These posts will include a problem area in my home that I'm wanting to organize/declutter/clean.  All of this is helping me emotionally, spiritually and even physically, as well as walking with the Lord as I become the woman described in Proverbs 31.  I will also include videos of the following:

-Meal Planning
-Coupon Binder
-Recipe/Household Binder
-Utilizing organizational tools (using what you have)
-Command Center and how to create one
-Budgeting/Saving money (things you can do to save money)

These videos will be posted periodically throughout this challenge.  I haven't yet figured out how long this series will last, I'd say at least 6 weeks.  We need to organize a lot of areas in our household, that's for sure!

Journals and Binders oh my!

Do any of you keep journals and/or binders to help keep organized?

I've kept journals in the past but over the course of the past 3 years I'll try and start one but won't continue one.  I think it's because during that time I had lost a sense of who I was.  Not only that, but I'd have so much to write about it would overflow my mind so when I went to write it out, it would be like writer's block you could say.

Well, after much debate I've decided to start journaling again.  I have a vast amount of 3 ring binders and notebooks lying around the house so it's time I start figuring out what to do with them.  The down side to keeping a journal, for me anyways, is I can't figure out if I want a journal, a separate to-do notebook/binder, budget, etc.  I feel like maybe I would keep my journal and to-do lists in the same notebook but am confused!  I want to utilize these methods to the best of their abilities.  And it's worked for me before so I would like to try it again.  I will be posting later on my household binder, I finally finished it and so far it is working!  That will come with the organizing challenge I'm fixing to post about!  Get ready!

Sunday evening ramble....

It's Sunday evening and I'm trying to sit down and think about what I need to get done.  Not just this week, but a master to do list.  Actually, I have so many lists I need to sit down and think about but just can't seem to figure out what works for me.  Yea, sure, you're probably saying to yourself, "Just pull out a pen and paper and get to writing".  But for me, lately, that's been a hard task to do.  I can't seem to get my mind straight and it's bugging me to no end.

I came up with a couple of schedules and I think for our first week we did fairly well!  I know we won't be able to follow the schedules to a T every day but that's not what I want.  I just want something written out in front of me so I can look at it through out the day to help me GET THROUGH the day!  I have been sitting on my butt waiting for the laundry to get, the clothes to fold themselves, dishes to wash themselves, rooms to be tidy themselves, well....you get the point!?

This is not the way God wants us to live.  The Proverbs woman is not lazy, she does not procrastinate, she gets things done and on time without anyone having to ask to get it done.  Even with my schedules in tact, I still feel like the 'not's' I've listed above are still me.  I feel there is so much more room for improvement in order to help keep me organized and to stay away from the laziness.  I see so many great ideas from other women and mothers and how they stay organized but have a hard time figuring out a way for myself.  I suppose it's more of the getting up and doing it that stresses me out.  That's the laziness and procrastinating in me.

Paul and I have actually gotten quite a lot cleaned up this weekend and I hope to have a before and after post later this week, if not today.  There has been so much moving around, decluttering, organizing, cleaning going on around here it's made my mind even more cluttered!  I have to remember to look at what I HAVE accomplished because all in all, I've accomplished quite a bit this week!  I suppose it does take a little while to get use to a new schedule or routine, right?

Completing Him Challenge

I've decided that I would participate in the Completing Him Challenge over at Women Living Well.  I am so thankful to have found such a wonderful site and it is because of Courtney I have been able to embrace being a woman of God.  Before finding  her blog, I had read the book, The Power of A Praying Wife and it transformed me from the first day I picked it up.  My husband and I began to notice a significant change in our relationship.  We've had quite a few rough times the past 3 years but I've felt something telling me to stay here and work out our problems, do NOT give up.  God put this man into my life for a reason and I know my husband loves me I don't doubt it for a second.

I feel like some times, some women are given good godly men and others, like myself, have to transform ourselves in order to transform our husbands.  I'm ecstatic about my transformation :)

Here's a list  of things I admire about my husband but don't tell him often enough,
  1. I admire how hard he works for his family.  He will work all day long for us to provide.
  2. I know that he will always be the protector of our home.  He will ALWAYS protect us.
  3. I admire him as a father.  He is always wanting to do more for them.
  4. I admire him when he helps with household chores.  Yes, he does help periodically, with laundry and even cooking! (He's a real big help when it comes to cleaning the tub!)
  5. He supports me more than I think.  Well, actually I KNOW he supports me in pretty much all that I do.  Normally, if he doesn't agree with me he turns out being right!
  6. He's handy ;)  When I need something hung on the wall, he's right there for me!

Overwhelmed with.... JOY!

I'm just overfilled with joy today!  I feel great and it's because of the Lord that I feel this way.  It's an amazing feeling that I get when He's answered a prayer of mine, do you feel this way too?  Some times, I even get goosebumps while I'm praying and after a prayer has been answered -  it's the Holy Spirit working through me!

Even though I was up until 2 in the morning last night, I came up with 3 new schedules!  A weekly schedule, daily schedule and daily chores for Landon.  I'm hoping to work on some type of chore system that is easy for him to understand.  I just had a sense of knowledge and wisdom come over me as the pen was on the paper.  And it shows today :)

I've come up with a couple of solutions for our home that I think will help in keeping me (and everyone else in this household) organized.  I will have several more posts to come on all of this!  The list just keeps piling and piling and I'm really hoping the schedules I had devised will help me to get things done and on time.  A main reason for my wanting to be organized is, not only for ME, but so that my husband doesn't have to ask me to clean something or wash his shirt, etc.  It will help my household to move more sufficiently.

Has God answered any of your prayers as of lately?  I know some times it can feel like it's taking forever, but I've been learning to wait it out and trust onto Him.  I can FEEL Him working through me and it's an awesome feeling :)

Creating a weekly schedule

I think I've come to realize it's time I come up with a weekly schedule AND a weekly cleaning schedule. I don't want to get too specific when writing them out, but I want them to be specific enough for me to get everything I need to get done, done!

I've looked at a LOT of different schedules online and feel like I'm ready to come up with one on my own. I know I won't be able to stick to it all the time, but it's a schedule that the whole family will see on our 'command center wall'. So there will never be an excuse of "I didn't know we had to do that" or "You never told me!" Well, wrong-O! (I may even come up with a list of house rules to hang up)!

Here's a weekly schedule I'd like to get started with,

Monday - Laundry & Market Day (I'll also use this day to go through and organize
coupons from Sunday) This is the day I'll go to the grocery store and shop the drugstores too.

Tuesday
- Kitchen day! This may end up being a busy day for me as I think I want to make this into my baking/cooking day. I like to make up batches of homemade muffins, biscuits, pre-cook my meats, etc.

Wednesday
- Bathrooms I'll clean the toilets, tub, sink, and floors

Thursday
- Dust & clean rooms I will go around and tidy up all the rooms, focusing on Landon's room as his is normally the most unorganized. I'll use this day to really focus on one problem area in our house.

Friday
- Laundry (this includes washing bed linens) and deep cleaning of house The deep cleaning is to prepare for the weekend, all I want to have to worry about over the weekends are spending time with my family, going to church and doing the daily chores

This schedule may change but I hope to keep up with it as much as possible. Everyday I'm going to do a daily cleaning routine, I'll try to post that later today. I'll have to come up with a more detailed cleaning schedule later. I feel like God has helped me this past week to come up with a solution when it comes to making a schedule I can keep up with. I felt Him nudging me when something was 'just right' last week. Other things I need to keep in my schedule are, times - that entails a more detailed schedule with times listed and I don't think I'm ready for that yet! I'm actually thinking right at this moment that a good daily schedule would be ideal. Just something we kind of follow daily. With me staying at home with the kids I really need to start focusing on involving talk of the Lord and reading the scripture. It seems this may be best in the morning over breakfast. I keep Brother Bear's bible in the kitchen and he's started to carry around a hardcover 'read to me bible' and says, "I want to read my bible"! I think this is fantastic!

How To: Budget?! HELP!

I need YOUR help!  My household does NOT have a budget.

Nope.  None.  Nada.

We need one badly and NOW!  I've been contemplating on bringing one into our household but have been worried because I'm not sure where I should start.  I notice a lot of people using Dave Ramsey's cash envelope system and I think I would like that the best.  The problem I'm having is this, I don't know how to come up WITH my budget.

So, do any of you have any tips for a newbie when it comes to budgeting?
